Jennifer and Greg have been keeping bees collectively for the past 8 years. They live in Central Hillside with their two pups, Gitchee (left) and Agate (right).
By starting Hillside Honey, LLC. hopes to serve the Duluth community by providing a local source of regional honey for the boutique drink industry and providing a range of beekeeping experiences. If you've had Duluth Cider's Glensheen Gold, you've already enjoyed some of Hillside Honey!
One of Greg's earliest beekeeping memories is his dad teaching him how to gently pet bees as Dad worked in the hives. It wasn't until he had hives of his own that he noticed how much keeping bees fostered a connection to the natural world and the many mental health benefits working with bees provide. Greg intends to share this through the programming at Hillside Honey.
Jen has always loved the natural world and picked up her own smoker and hive tool shortly after her first hive inspection. She finds that connection to the natural world is enhanced through the relationship between the bees and her flower and vegetable gardens.
Both have master's degrees in education and focus on environmental education. They plan to use these skills to widen the scope of beekeeping beyond an agricultural practice to include mental health and well-being.
